Meet the Oasis Middle School Faculty:


   
Josh Bachman

Mr. Bachman has been teaching since 2001.  He earned a Bachelors Degree from Western Michigan University with a major in Physical Education/Coaching and a minor in History.  He is working on finishing his Masters Degree in Sport Management from WMU.  Mr. Bachman is currently the Assistant Athletic Director and Boys Basketball Coach here at Oasis Middle School.  He has been coaching middle & high school athletics since 1999 with experience in Varsity Softball, Junior Varsity & Varsity Boys Basketball, Junior Varsity Baseball, Middle School Boys & Girls Basketball, and Middle School Boys & Girls Track.

Keely My name is Keely Bambrey-Zedd and I am currently teaching American Government and Economics, Sociology and Law Studies, Chorus, Drama, and 8th Grade Advanced Reading. I am also the director of the OHS theater program and the very first OHS Show Choir. I began teaching in 2000 after graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in American Government and Sociology. I moved to Florida from Charlottesville, Virginia shortly after getting married in 2001. I earned my Florida teaching certification and taught at a charter school in Fort Myers before moving to Cape Coral and joining Oasis Middle School the year that it opened. In addition to teaching and running the theater program and Show Choir, I enjoy singing in my quartet, performing at the theater, and spending time with my husband and beautiful daughter Cadence.

Sarah Sarah Brooks is the 7th grade science teacher. She moved to Florida in June of 2004 with her husband and two children. She moved from Michigan were she lived her entire life. She says she loves Florida and would never return to Michigan. She graduated in June of 2007 with a Bachelor in Elementary Education from Barry University. She began teaching at OCMS in August 2007 and has loved working with all her students every year. Mrs. Brooks also has earned at Masters of Arts in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University. She is the Odyssey of the Mind coordinator for the middle school as well as the Oasis High School Softball coach.

Mark Mr. Brooks is a Michigan State Graduate with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Studies and Application. Mr. Brooks also has earned at Masters of Arts in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University. Prior to becoming a teacher Mr. Brooks was a Project Scientist for an Environmental Consulting firm and enjoyed running his own business for years. Mr. Brooks is the Oasis High School Baseball Coach and enjoys spending time with friends and family in his spare time.

Janiris Ms. Caraballo was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Cape Coral. She graduated from Mariner High School and went on to graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2005. She has been teaching at Oasis Middle School since it opened in 2006. Ms. Caraballo is currently teaching PE in the middle school and is the head coach of the Oasis Middle School and Oasis High School girls' volleyball teams. So, if you are interested in playing volleyball next year stop by her office in the gym or send her an email.

Coach Joe Carson is in his 32nd year as a math instructor and girls' basketball coach. Originally from East Tennessee, Coach C's teams have won 4 AAU/USA national championships, finished as national runner-up 3 times, and captured 19 state AAU championships in Tennessee. He has taken 3 different high school programs to state tournaments throughout his career. He is a two-time winner of the AAU Gatorade National Coaches award and was a finalist for the WBCA national high school coach of the year in 1997.  Here at Oasis he coaches and coordinates both the middle school and high school girls' basketball programs. Coach C sponsors the Math Olympiad Club and does before school tutoring in math for all grade levels.

Matt Clark My name is Matthew Clark. I grew up and went to College in California. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology, Teaching Concentration. I moved to Florida in the summer of 2007. For a couple years I was a substitute with the Charter School System and feel greatly blessed to now have a permanent position as a 6th Grade Science teacher at Oasis Middle School.

Elisa Mrs. Elisa Collins teaches 6th grade Study Skills-Learning to Learn. She finds it exciting to empower the students with tips and techniques that will make them better lifelong learners. Mrs. Collins has been teaching since 1978. Originally from NYC, she and her family moved to Cape Coral in 1992. Prior to her move she taught kindergarten, second and sixth grade. When she relocated to Cape Coral, Florida, she began teaching at St. Andrew. In her 16 years at St. Andrew she created the Media Center and then went on to teach kindergarten, Pre-K, second and sixth grade. Mrs. Collins received her Bachelors in Elementary Education from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Barry University, Miami Shores, FL.  Saverna DeRose My name is Saverna DeRose and I am originally from Brooklyn, New York. I earned my Bachelors degree in education from Brooklyn College. I and my daughter have lived in Cape Coral since 2004 and love it here.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, and watching old movies.

This year I will be teaching 6th grade language arts and look forward to having a great year at Oasis Middle School.

 Monica After graduating from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in Family Relations and Human Development, Monica Eppler decided to leave behind the cold Midwestern winters and move to Florida. Her relocation introduced her to a career with DCF in foster care and protective supervision, from where she moved onto work as a family law case manager with the 20th Judicial Circuit Family Court Services. Inspired by the children and families she met while working with DCF, Monica decided teaching was her true calling and she joined the Oasis family in 2007.

Katy Katy Hannon currently teaches 7th grade reading. She graduated from USF with a degree in elementary education in 1991. She is certified to teach grades K-9. Ms. Hannon taught 5th grade for years in Atlanta before she decided to stay home with her daughters. Upon moving back to the area Ms. Hannon taught 5th grade in the Lee County School District for 3 more years. In 2007, she moved up to 7th grade at Oasis Middle. Teaching middle school at Oasis has been the best move for her. She loves teaching at a school where her own children attend and are happy.

My name is Jeremy Jack and I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. I played soccer at High Point University in North Carolina and received a Bachelors degree in Business. I owned my own business for 11 years in which I sold specialized products to law enforcement agencies in the South East U.S. I have trained local, state and federal officers in a multitude of products, procedures and protocols. My amazing wife is a first grade teacher at Oasis Elementary and all three of my children (Owen, Karli and Kailey) attend Oasis elementary and we are also expecting a baby girl in November. I look forward to a new year at Oasis Middle School.

My name is Lea Kingsley and I am a 6th grade science teacher. Michigan is my hometown and where I spent the majority of my life. About two years ago my family and I moved to Cape Coral and we love it here. My husband and I have a 15 year old daughter who is a sophomore in high school. I received an Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy, a Bachelors Degree in Business Management, and a Masters Degree in Education. I am looking forward to an exciting year!

Nicole I was born and raised in central New Jersey.  I graduated from Rutgers University where I studied English, Literature, and Education.   I moved here to beautiful Florida about four years ago because I love the beaches.  I have taught at Oasis Middle School for two years and really love it! I teach Reading and Language Arts.  I also run the Oasis Literary Magazine Club.  The students write and revise their own short stories, poems, novellas, and post them on our supervised website; Iguanamonthly.  My husband and I are expecting our first child this June and we are really excited about it.  I am so glad to be part of the Oasis family.

Sara I moved to Cape Coral in 2008 from Michigan. I received my BA from Oakland University in 2006 in Studio Arts- concentration Oil Painting. I went back for an additional two years to receive my Art Education certification. I have my professional certification in both Michigan and Florida. I love teaching at Oasis and I have established an art club which meets every Thursday after school. Each semester, I aim to have all of my students work with new media and appreciate the arts while also meeting all Sunshine State Standards for the Visual Arts.

Photo Coming Soon! Erica Maynard is new to Oasis Middle School this year and is teaching 7th grade science. She has over 10 years of experience working in Florida and other areas of the world as a biologist. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she is a graduate of Penn State (B.S. in Biology) and Edinboro University (M.S. in Biology). She moved to Florida in 2005 and has worked in Lee County as an environmental specialist/marine biologist. She has worked at WPC researching freshwater mussels and habitat evaluation in the French Creek watershed. Erica also performed field sampling for mosquitoes and birds for USGS in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. She also completed coral reef and reef fish species identification for Edinboro University in Sal Salvador. Erica has been qualified as an expert witness with the City of Bonita Springs, Lee County, and the City of Sanibel regarding environmental surveys and biological systems.

Mr. McCarthy is beginning his 8th year teaching and will teaching 7th grade Social Studies. It is his 2nd year as part of the OMS family. He graduated from Mt. St. Clare College in Clinton, IA with a Bachelors degree in Social Science and a concentration in Psychology. Mr. McCarthy moved to Lee County Florida in 2000 where he was a mental health counselor for a local agency. After counseling children and their families for 2 years Mr. McCarthy became a public school teacher and taught Middle School and High School Social Studies for 6 years. Brian Mr. Montag is entering his third year at Oasis Middle as the Health Education teacher and is excited about the opportunity to work with his new 6th grade students.  He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in May of 2006 with his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education with a Minor in Health Education.  He returned to EIU for his Masters in Sports Administration in 2007 which helped him achieve the position of Athletic Director at OMS.  If you should ever need to reach Mr. Montag regarding class please feel free to send him an email.  In the meantime, check out his class website for any answers you shall need.

Dave Dave Montrose is in his fifth year of teaching and fourth at Oasis. He received a bachelor's degree in history from Florida Atlantic University in 2003. Prior to teaching, he was a sports writer and continues to freelance. He is also the cross country coach and the assistant boys track coach at Oasis High School.

John My name is John Omundsen and I teach 8th grade algebra 1 and high school mathematics for college readiness here at Oasis. I was born in Staten Island, NY, but have grown up in Cape Coral for nearly my entire life. I graduated in 2007 from the University of Florida (GO GATORS!) with a bachelors in math and in 2008 with my masters in math education. I am currently working on my doctorate in educational leadership through UF. I am really enjoying my third year teaching at Oasis, and the "Oasis family" has a special meaning to me as my mom is a member of the faculty and I have the honor of working with her! Just remember as I always tell my students - Math is Everything!

For many years I worked as a freelance journalist and lived on five of the seven world continents. Although I began my teaching career in South Korea, I feel especially privileged and excited to be working with so many talented and passionate Oasis educators and students. Keri Rieder Ms. Rieder is currently the 7th grade reading teacher. She graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN in 1998 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Human Relations and math. In 2001, she became a flight attendant and moved to New York where she lived for 4 years. She later moved to Kentucky where she taught two years of 5th grade and received her middle school certification from Northern Kentucky University where she is also currently working on finishing her Masters in Education. She has lived in Florida for a little over a year and is excited to be a part of the Oasis family.

Mr. Royal is a Florida native who is returning after honorably serving our country for 22 years. His military duty led him to work in a variety of diverse and challenging environments to include living in Asia and Europe. He led several large multi-national organizations guaranteeing their combat success during Operation DESERT STORM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and Operation ALLIED FORCE. His team received the nation's highest honor at the Pentagon by being awarded the Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award-for the USA's "Greatest Aeronautical Achievement, 2000." He is an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate and has also worked for the state of Florida in program management positions. He built a partnership with local community leaders and adolescents establishing youth outreach programs. Mr. Royal is in his 3nd year with OCMS teaching 6th grade Geography/History.

Ileana My name is Ileana Silva and I am the Spanish teacher here at Oasis Middle and High School. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Education from Felix Varela Pedagogical Institute in Villa Clara, Cuba in 1985 where I taught English as a Second Language for 14 years before coming to the United States. I am certified in Spanish K-12. I also have additional endorsements in Reading and ESOL. I have taught both middle and high school here at Oasis since school opened. I have two wonderful children, Yelina, she lives in Jacksonville with her husband Rollys and my grandson Jonathan. My name is Jana Smoker, and I am originally from Central PA. I received my Bachelors of Science in Communicative Studies from Liberty University in 2003. Lisa My name is Lisa Terefenko and I have been teaching at Oasis Middle School for the past three years. Prior to teaching, I was employed by Verizon Superpages as their Mid-Atlantic Training Manager for five years. In this position, I traveled quite a bit throughout the United States and trained the sales personal on policy and procedures for the advertising products. After my husband and I decided to start a family, I decided to stay at home and be with our two children. I have a Bachelors Degree from Montclair State University in English Education and have an additional endorsement in Reading. I am also currently seeking my German certification K-12. The subject areas I have taught include Reading, Language Arts, and Introduction to German. I am blessed to have a wonderful family. I have two beautiful children named Makensie and Nicholas, who are attending Oasis Elementary School and my husband, Mark, who also teaches at Oasis High School.

Mrs. Theriault is a graduate of Barry University with a bachelor's degree in Communication.  After graduating from college, Mrs. Theriault worked in television newsrooms in Miami, Maine, Ohio, Vermont and right here in Cape Coral at WFTX -  FOX4.  Her experience in broadcast journalism includes videography, reporting, producing, and anchoring local news programs. During her more than 12 years in news, Mrs. Theriault covered education, crime, Presidential and local political races, and the unforgettable hurricane seasons of 2004/2005.   Also, experienced in public relations and marketing, Mrs. Theriault is now enjoying teaching television production and producing the school's newscast Iguana 5 News.  Married to her college sweetheart, she and her husband are the proud parents of two wonderful children.

This year I will be teaching 6th and 7th Grade Reading and 6th and 7th Grade Gifted. I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Secondary Language Arts at Florida Gulf Coast University.  I am certified to teach Grades K-6 and Grades 5-9 Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Long Island University and spent most of my former career as a Tax Accountant working in research, compliance, forensic accounting, and business consulting. My husband and I moved to Cape Coral in 2000 from Long Island.  We have two daughters who attend Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary.  I am passionate about education, travel, reading, and consider life to be a great adventure!

Evelyn My name is Evelyn Williams, 8th Grade Science Teacher. I am one of the original teachers hired in 2005 at the inception of this fascinating charter school system.  I have been an educator for nearly 25 years, acquiring diversified experience from both public and private schools in Connecticut. I completed my Bachelor of Science degree at Central Connecticut State Teachers College and graduate degree in Social Science from Sacred Heart University. My goal is to guide, inspire and help students rekindle an interest in Science...their future!

Karen Wolters Mrs. Wolters is currently the ESE teacher at Oasis Middle School and Oasis High School. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Florida Gulf Coast University. She has been teaching at Oasis since 2008, and loves being a part of such a fabulous school. She also co-coaches the middle school Dance team. She loves watching high school and college football, riding the Harley, and spending time with family and friends.
